DDG finalise venue for ACT UP! (19/08/09)

The DDG committee are extremely pleased to announce the successful agreement of a working partnership with the Jamjar art studio and gallery located in the media district of Al Quoz. The venue, which on a day-to-day basis is a thriving art gallery for both regional and international talent as well as offering art classes and corporate teambuilding workshops, is an ideal indoor space to host ACT UP! - our 25th anniversary show and the platform for the performances of the 1st UAE National Playwriting Competition winners' plays (for more information about entry click here).

As December rapidly approaches, both the DDG and Jamjar will be working towards adapting this versatile space into a relaxing theatre venue, and both parties hope that ACT UP! will be just the first in a long line of future projects that we can share in. New Chairman of the committee, Abi Reddy says, "The Jamjar is perfect for us. It is great for all manner of performance styles - in-the-round, promenade, as well as the more traditional set ups. I also hope that on occasion we will have permission to hold various workshops here as well".

Dates for the performances of ACT UP! are yet to be finalised, but watch this space for details.

The Jamjar operates throughout the year exhibiting contemporary art from emerging local talent and international artists. The Jamjar also embraces the visual and aural arts with regular film showings and band sessions. With its combined concept of an urben DIY painting studio and Art Gallery, the Jamjar prides itself on its links to the community - making art accessible to all.

New committee elected (20/06/09)

The new Committee is in the process of growing the image and profile of the DDG in Dubai. Throughout the Summer we are continuing to work on a new and more informative website, designing a new social calendar which will be interesting, educational and primarily fun for members and non-members alike. We are also launching a new initiative which will culiminate in a number of performances in December. Keep your eyes peeled if you feel you are the next Brad Pitt / Angelina Jolie, or you want to get involved in any shape or form in bringing those productions to life!

We would also love to hear from you if you have any ideas on how we might improve any elements of the DDG, to make it more appealing to you. What benefits would you like as a member? What do you want to read about on our website? Please spend a few minutes giving us your feedback via the Feedback Form on this website.

We hope to see you soon!
