Lady—chatty, setting up her stall for the Zabeel Park Flea Market

Eat, Play, Love in Dubai

Man in a White Suit—non-speaking role, needs to have great facial expressions

Narrator—funeral professional doing perhaps his fifth service of the day

Woman 1—well dressed for a funeral, from the cream of the social set

Woman 2—well dressed for a funeral, from the cream of the social set

Woman 3—well dressed for a funeral, from the cream of the social set

Loved and Lost

Sarah—moved to Dubai to be with her boyfriend who has recently ended the relationship

Rob—best friend of the boyfriend, but also Sarah’s confidant

New Developments III – Call for Auditions

It’s here folks, the one you have been waiting for – the New Developments III Call for Auditions….

The Auditions are scheduled for the 3rd and 4th of January 2012, 7.30 – 9.30pm at the Multi-Function Rooms of Golf Tower 2, The Greens, Dubai.

For those of you have had the opportuinity to be involved in previous years, we won’t need to remind you how much fun these New Developments productions are. If this would be your first New Developments show, you should be encouraged by the fact that for many of our members this was thier first introduction to Dubai Drama Group and indeed the world of theatre.

As usual this is going to be a huge production, with aproximately 40 members involved. So if you are interested in acting, props, backstage, front of house, technical team or and other aspect of the production we will have a place for you in the team.

We will be posting more details, including character descriptions, over the coming weeks, so be sure to check back here for details. For now, save the date in your diary…

After reviewing all the entries for “Write Now! III”, our 3rd annual playwriting competition, we are delighted to congratulate the following writers who’s plays have been selected for production.

These plays will be cast, directed and staged in our Spring production, “New Developments III”, where the audience will vote for their favourite play and decide the winner of the competition.

Again, if you submitted a play but were not selected this time, I hope the feedback we sent was useful. Most importantly please keep writing, honestly all the entries were well put together and in another forum we could produce them all.

Dubai Drama Group Launches its 2011 Playwriting Competition “Write Now III”

Drawing on the success of this competition, started in 2009, Dubai Drama Group has launched its third annual playwriting competition, ‘Write Now! III’.

The purpose of the competition is to reach out to find talented and promising writers from every corner of the country. Previous years have seen a very high number of entries from a range of ethnic backgrounds, including Emirati writers. Building on the success of the first year, last year again saw an exceptionally high standard of entries and once more Dubai Drama Group was able to produce and perform eight of the best pieces for the public.
